Nell Brown Long

Nell Brown Long, 90, of Raleigh, formerly of Rockingham, passed away Friday, January 22, 2016 at The Oaks at Mayview in Raleigh. Mrs. Long was born December 15, 1925 in Mecklenburg County, NC, a daughter of the late Grover Cleveland and Dixie Lee Merritt Brown. She was a member of First United Methodist Church and was a homemaker. In addition to her parents and siblings, she was preceded in death by her husband, J. Alex Long. Surviving are her children, Jerry Long (Beverly) of Raleigh, Anne Reneau of Bladenboro and Frances Thompson (Pete) of Greenville, SC. Also surviving are 4 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren. Funeral services will be at 2 pm Monday in the Colonial Chapel of Carter Funeral Home with Rev. Mike Sykes officiating. Interment will follow in Richmond County Memorial Park. The family will see friends from 12:45 to 1:45 pm Monday at the funeral home.
