Billy Carl Brown, 84, of Rockingham, passed away Saturday, January 23, 2016 at Richmond Pines Health and Rehabilitation Center in Hamlet. Mr. Brown was born March 16, 1931 in Mecklenburg County, a son of the late David P. and Addie Mae Stewart Brown. He had served his country in the US Army and had retired from the US Navy , having served in the Korean and Vietnam Wars. He later retired again from Clark Equipment Company and had been a member of the East Rockingham Men’s Club. His love for singing was evident in his singing for the residents while at Richmond Pines and in his being a part of the East Rockingham Men’s Chorus. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his step daughters, Sharon Blue and Diane Rogers, brothers, Gerald, J.C. “Tottie” and Bernie Brown and sisters, Ethel Diggs and Juanita Burr. Surviving are his wife, Laura Mae Causey Brown of the home; children, B.J. Brown (Tammy) of Crossville, TN, Jimmy Brown (Melissa) of Hamlet, Joanie Brayboy (J.B.) of Rockingham; grandchildren, Joshua and Jeremy Brayboy, Nicole Johnson, Laura Ann Parks, Jamie Blue; 6 great grandchildren; 4 great great grandchildren and sister Betty Saunders of Georgia. Funeral services will be at 2 pm Tuesday at Pine Grove Baptist Church with Rev. Robbie Caudle and Rev. Wayne Tuttle officiating. Interment will follow in Eastside Cemetery. The family will see friends from 6 to 8 pm Monday at Carter Funeral Home in Rockingham and at other times at the home.
