Betty Jean Blalock McRae, 85, of Rockingham, passed away Tuesday, February 9, 2016 at FirstHealth Richmond Memorial Hospital in Rockingham. Mrs. McRae was born September 12, 1930 in Montgomery County, a daughter of the late Robert Belton and Jewel Iver Faulkenberry Blalock. She was a member of Freedom Baptist Church and for over 35 years she had been a volunteer with the American Red Cross Bloodmobile. She was the co-owner of McRae’s Exxon and was the first female Automobile Inspector in North Carolina. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Matthew L. McRae. Surviving are her children, Zedena Kraus (Robert) of Fayetteville, NC, Matthew McRae, Jr. (Juliana) of Las Vegas, NV, Barry McRae (Hanna) of Harrisburg, NC, and Angela McRae of the home; 11 grandchildren; 10 great grandchildren and a sister, JoAnn Nooe of Troy. Funeral services will be at 2 pm Saturday at Freedom Baptist Church with Rev. Ronnie McLean officiating. Interment will follow in the First Wesleyan Church Cemetery in Troy.
