Sarah Dabbs Featherston, 81, of Rockingham, passed away Friday, February 19, 2016 at her home. Sarah was born January 15, 1935 in Richmond County, a daughter of the late William and Maggie Ussery Dabbs. Knowing Sarah was like a breath of spring air. She was a devoted Christian, and a loving wife, mother and grandmother. Sarah worked in the banking profession for over 34 years. She worked with Richmond County Bank, and was a senior loan officer with United Carolina and BB&T Banks. She always treated her customers with dignity and respect in a smiling manner. For over 58 years she was a member of First Baptist Church, where she sang in the choir, taught Sunday School and led the Praise Singing on Sunday mornings. She was a past member and president of the Rockingham Woman’s Club. Sarah’s pride was her family. She was the love of Bill’s life and his soul mate for over 59 years. She loved family gatherings and the beach. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her siblings, William Dabbs, Loyce Dawkins, Audrey Watts, Bobbie Nordick, John Dabbs and Jim Dabbs. Surviving are her husband of 59 years, William “Bill” Featherston of the home; daughter, Carol Larsen (Rich) of Rockingham; grandchildren, Will Larsen (Heather) of Greenville, NC, Chris Larsen (Ashleigh) of Rockingham and lifelong friend, Margie “Pete” Parker. Funeral services will be at 3 pm Sunday at First Baptist Church with Rev. Dr. Jim Nelson and Rev. Patricia Greene officiating. Entombment will follow in the Richmond County Memorial Park Mausoleum. The family will see friends from 1:45 to 2:45 pm Sunday at the church and at other times at the home. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to First Baptist Church of Rockingham, 201 N. Randolph St., Rockingham, NC 28379 or to Community Home Care and Hospice, 1971 E. Broad Ave. Rockingham, NC 28379. Special thanks is given to Community Home Care and Hospice, Dr. Charlita Mangrum, Raven Currie, Rose Cobb, Southeastern Home Care, Kay Morman and Sarah’s special caregiver, Gloria Waters.
