Faye Hasie

Mrs. Marcia Faye Morgan Hasie peacefully passed away on April 30, 2009 after a brief illness. She was born in Aledo, IL on August 12, 1923, but spent her childhood in Texas. Her greatest influences during those years were her father, Ray Morgan, and his hobby of horse-trading, her mother, Gertrude Huston Morgan, and her stress on the importance of education, and her own love of Beauty, a single-foot painted horse. During the Depression years, her father moved the family to Charlotte, North Carolina, where she graduated from high school. After graduation, Cia Faye returned to Texas and attended Ranger Junior College, and then started her job as an x-ray technician. During this time, she met Pat Hasie, a young Army officer, and they were married on February 15, 1944. This began her career as an Army officer’s wife and a history of world travel. Within this framework, Faye always made a point to take advantage of learning about the culture and the history of the places in which they lived. Her first daughter, Marcia Faye Hasie was born in Tacoma, Washington, and later Patricia Lee Hasie was born in Frankfurt, Germany. After moving to Arlington,Virginia, and then to San Francisco, California, Pat was deployed on an eighteen month hardship tour to Korea. During this time she maintained the household, entered her daughters into school, and raised, trained, and showed Weimaraner dogs. Summoned to join Pat in Tokyo, Japan, she independently took charge in moving her children, dog, and household goods. After Japan, the family moved to Hawaii and back to Virginia where she became an active member of the Annandale Garden Club. Pat and Faye were able to purchase Wiggington’s Island on Aquia Creek outside the Washington Metro Area and create a weekend and vacation refuge for the family. After retirement in 1973, the couple purchased Belveu Farm in Hoffman with the guidance of her brother, Lyle Morgan, who had managed the NC Sandhills Wildlife Refuge. Faye’s first major purchase for the farm was two Tennessee Walking Horses. From this beginning, she inspired daughters, grandchildren, and great grandchildren to get involved with the process of raising and showing horses. She and her husband worked side-by-side clearing hayfields and making choices to buy and raise Black Angus Cattle. She joined the Hoffman United Methodist Church, the Ruth Deaton Home Extension Club, and the “Antique” Club. She also belonged to the Tennessee Walking Horse Owners and Exhibitors Association, the National Walking Horse Association, the Plantation Pleasure Walking Horse Association of NC, and the 4 Beats for Pleasure Walking Horse Club. Cia Faye is survived by her husband of 65 years, Pat Warren Hasie, two daughters and their families: Marcia and John Daniels, Huston Cambron and Preston Daniels: Patricia and Bill Comninaki , Mikal Spooner, and Morgan Applewhite: great grandchildren: Aerial Spooner, Gavin Applewhite, Hasie and Corwin Cambron. A “Celebration of Life” ceremony was conducted Saturday, April 24 on Belveu Farm. She was been a supporter of the National Walking Horse Association since its inception ten years ago, and the family requests, in lieu of flowers, that donations be made in her memory to the NWHA Youth Association at the Kentucky Horse Park/ 4059 Iron Works Parkway /Suite 4 / Lexington, KY 40511. Carter Funeral Home in Ellerbe is assisting the Hasie family.
