Elizabeth Ann Yerly, 46, of Hamlet, died Monday, May 4, 2009 at UNC Medical Center in Chapel Hill. Elizabeth was born September 28, 1962 in San Jose, CA to James and Margaret Mulholland Hudson. She graduated from Mission Bay High School in San Diego, CA. Liz loved sports and was very active in softball. She lettered in varsity softball all three years in high school, her favorite position being catcher. Liz also loved to umpire and graduated from North Shore Umpire School in San Diego. She was recognized as one of the first youth female umpires and appeared on ABC’s “Kids Are People Too” with Tug McGraw of the Phillies and Henry “ The Fonz” Winkler in 1975. Liz went on to medical school, receiving a certificate for Medical Assistant. She continued on to complete her Nursing Degree and became a Registered Nurse, which was her passion. Liz worked for the San Diego County Traveling Nursing Association and traveled all over CA assisting people. She continued her nursing career in NC at Scotland County Hospital, Richmond Memorial Hospital, Hamlet Hospital, Sandhills Regional Medical Center, Britthaven of Hamlet and finally as a Home Health Nurse. Liz always made herself available to help anyone who was in need. He hobbies were baking, fishing, horror movies, theme parks and she loved the San Diego Chargers. Halloween and Christmas were her favorite holidays and she was a lover of animals. Surviving are her daughter, Amber Flowers and husband Nick of Junction City, KS; her granddaughter, Alexis Flowers; her parents, James and Margaret Hudson of Hamlet; brothers and sisters, Jim Hudson, Eric Hudson and wife Suzanne, all of Rockingham, Kimberly Biggs and husband Brian of McAllister, Ok; nieces and nephews, Hollie and Abbie Hudson, Brandon and Justin Biggs and Kyel Hudson. The family will see friends from 6:00 – 8:00 PM Friday at Eric and Suzanne’s home, 228 Farmstead Ct. Rockingham. Memorials may be made to Hamlet Fire and Rescue, P.O. Box 1229, Hamlet, NC 28345.
