Mary Benson Cook

Mary Alice Benson Cook Mary Alice Jordan Benson Cook, 99 of Rockingham passed away Saturday at her home surrounded by family. She was born July 31, 1916 in Montgomery County a daughter of the late William Preston Jordan and Martha Brown Jordan. She was retired from J P Stevens and was a member of the Church of God of Prophecy of Rockingham. Mary was preceded in death by her parents, her husbands, Ellis Argo Benson and Roy Lee Cook; a son, Ellis Timothy Benson, a great-grandson, Thomas Carter Massey; her brother, John Jordan, Jr. , and her sisters, Myrtle Causey and Rosa Crawford. Surviving are her daughters, Betty Freeman of Rock Hill, SC, Shirley Massey and Pat Kuebler of Rockingham, Geneva Taylor(Ramsey) of Holden Beach, NC; son Robert Benson(Susan) of Rockingham; Twelve Grandchildren, fifteen great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren; and a daughter-in-law, Janice Benson of Rockingham. A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, March 30, 2016 at 2:00 pm at the Church of God of Prophecy, with Pastor Steve Gilmer officiating. Burial will follow in Richmond Memorial Park. The family will receive friends on Tuesday at the church from 6:00 – 8:00 pm and other times at the home. Memorials may be made to Richmond County Hospice, 1119 N US HWY 1, Rockingham, NC 28379.
