Hettie Mathis Parker, 89, of Cordova, passed away Wednesday, March 30,2016 at Hospice Haven in Rockingham. Mrs. Parker was born April 18, 1926 in Jackson County, NC, a daughter of the late James and Chassie Dietz Mathis. At the time of her death she was the oldest active member of Cordova Baptist Church. She had worked with Klopman Mills and retired from Burlington Industries. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Harold Parker and several brothers and sisters. Surviving are her children, Cheryl Robinson (John) of Hamlet, Glenda Thompson of Cordova, Miriam Haire (Tommy) of Rockingham and William Parker of Aberdeen; 8 grandchildren; 15 great grandchildren; 4 great great grandchildren and sisters, Helen King and Bennie Sue Stirk, both of Cordova. Funeral services will be at 1 pm Saturday, April 2, 2016 in the Colonial Chapel of Carter Funeral Home with Rev. Doug Anderson officiating. Interment will follow in Richmond County Memorial Park. The family will see friends from 11:45 am to 12:45 pm Saturday at the funeral home and at other times at 197 Ledbetter Street, Cordova.
