Robert William Black

Robert William Black, 80, of Hamlet, passed away Wednesday, March 30, 2016 at his home. Mr. Black was born August 4, 1935 in Piercefield, NY, a son of the late Aloney and Madelyn Brown Black. He was a carpenter by trade, having worked for Alcoa, the Seaway Project and a missle base in upstate New York. Later he was self-employed with his son until his retirement, when he and his wife Susanna moved to North Carolina. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his children, Bonnie Vanduesen, Crystal Black, Barbara Black and Aloney Black; brothers, Donald Black, Brian Black; sister, Teresa Black and many nieces, nephews and in-laws. Surviving are his wife Susanna Toland Black; daughter, Donna Wright (Keith); grandchildren, Brandon Black, Jacquie Wright, Katherine Wright, Jamil Wright, Tiffany Vanduesen; great grandchild, Adrian Braswell; brothers, Gerald Black, Glenn Black, Stanley Black, Bruce Black and sisters, Sister Mary Maurice and Joycie Black. A Memorial Mass will be at 11am Saturday at St. James Catholic Church with Father Jean Pierre Swananunu, Celebrant. The family will greet friends following the service at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. James Catholic Church or the Knights of Columbus.
