Dorothy “Doris” Reynolds Bennett, 92, of Ellerbe, passed away Wednesday, May 4, 2016 at Firsthealth Hospice in Pinehurst. Mrs. Bennett was born February 8, 1924 in Richmond County, a daughter of the late Elmer J and Annie Eliza Goodman Reynolds. She was a longtime member of Marcus United Methodist Church, where she taught Sunday School, was a strong church leader and along with her husband, in their special gift and calling, spent countless volunteer hours keeping the grounds at Marcus Church. She retired in 1999 from Burlington Industries in Raeford, after 50 years of service. The Bennett’s hobby was a large vegetable garden, where they grew enough to feed the whole Windblow community. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Herman Bennett, and brothers, Lloyd, Wilson, Grover “Red”, Robert, Paul, Fred and Wade Reynolds. Surviving are her sister, Annie Ruth Reynolds Spivey of Ellerbe; brother, Don Reynolds of Pineville, NC and a number of nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be at 2 pm Saturday at Marcus United Methodist Church with Rev. Eric Joyce and Rev. Don Burns officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. The family will see friends from 6 to 8 pm Friday at Carter Funeral Home in Ellerbe and at other times at the Reynolds family home on Gallimore Road.
