Mrs. Mary Carlon Warrick Futterer, 83, of 621 Anson Ave., Rockingham died Tuesday, April 4, 2006 at First Health Richmond Memorial Hospital. She was born January 11, 1923 in Halifax County, a daughter of the late Julian and Lucy Taylor Warrick. Mrs. Futterer was a member of First Baptist Church in Rockingham and a graduate of Rockingham High School Class of ’41, which was the first year Rockingham had a twelfth grade. She worked with Western Union in Whiteville, Pinehurst, Camp Mackall, and Rockingham during World War II and for a time after. It was at Camp Mackall, that she met and later married Bill Futterer, who was stationed there. Mrs. Futterer worked as the office manager at WAYN Radio, for many years. She was an advocate of Public Television, a Bloodmobile volunteer, an enthusiastic bridge player, and was deeply involved in the school and sports activities of her children. A memorial service to celebrate the life of Mary Futterer will be conducted 11:00 a.m. Thursday, April 6th in the chapel of Carter Funeral Home in Rockingham with Rev. David Keck and Rev. David Phillips officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Surviving are; a daughter, Mary Julian F. Morgan of Alexandria, VA; two sons, Bill Futterer III and wife Yvonne of Clayton and Rev. John Futterer and wife Anne of Albemarle; one granddaughter, Anne Carlon Futterer; two sisters, Tinka Nuttall and Joyce Morris, both of Rockingham.
