Carl Herbert Dawkins, Jr., 75, of Ellerbe, went to meet his Heavenly Father, Sunday, June 26, 2016 at his home. Herbert was born September 20, 1940 in Richmond County, a son of the late Carl H. and Louise Smith Dawkins. He was a charter member of Pleasant Hill Baptist Church, where he had served on the board of directors and as a deacon. He was a member of the Ellerbe Rescue Squad for over 20 years and was the owner of Herbert Dawkins Trucking and Herbert Dawkins Bulldozer/Construction. Herbert was a devoted husband, loving father and grandfather, an avid traveler and a friend to all. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his daughter, Debbie; and a sister, Kay Nance King. He is survived by his wife, Annette Richardson Dawkins of the home; daughter, Ann Dawkins King (Jimmy) of Ellerbe; grandchildren, Keith King (Vicki); Brent King (Traci); Scarlet King Hodges; great-grandchildren, Damian King; Tyler King; Alexus King; Kailey McInnis; Alyssa Hodges; Ryder King; Laythan Kennington; Jeffrey Parrish; Nadira Brown, all of Ellerbe; brother Dell Dawkins (Lotta) of Ellerbe and sister, Janice D. Thomas (JT) of Ellerbe, and many nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, June 30, 2016 at Pleasant Hill Baptist Church with Reverend Wayne Luck and Reverend David Howard officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. The family will see friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Wednesday, June 29, 2016 at Carter Funeral Home in Ellerbe and at other times at the home. Memorial may be made to Community Home Care and Hospice, 1971 E. Broad Ave, Rockingham, NC 28379.
