Mrs. Carolyn Comer Hollingsworth, 90, resident of Rockingham Manor for four years, and formerly of Ellerbe, died Saturday, June 13, 2009 at Sandhills Regional Hospital in Hamlet. She was born October 2, 1918 in Spartanburg, SC, a daughter of the late Mack and Calla Tallant Comer. Mrs. Hollingsworth was a member of First United Methodist Church in Ellerbe, was a homemaker and had been employed with Commonwealth Hosiery and Wilson’s Grocery, both in Ellerbe. Her husband, Leroy Hollingsworth, and a grandson, Scott Carriker, preceded her in death. Surviving are sons, Doyle Hollingsworth of Holden Beach and Jerry Hollingsworth of Hamlet; daughters and sons-in-law, Carolyn and Ron Sanders of Daleville, AL, and Jane and Jerry Carriker of Ellerbe; grandchildren, Jeremy Hollingsworth, Ian Hollingsworth and wife Heather, Robert Carter and wife Angie, Tim Carter and wife Aida, and Bob Carriker; great grandchildren, Addyson Hollingsworth and Kaitlyn Carter, and step-grandchildren, Christine, Thomas, Shaum, Jasmine, Spring, and Libby. Also surviving are sisters, Pat Brinkley, Margaret Parsons, Peggy McGee, Myra Perman, all of Kernersville, and Sara Sykes of Greensboro; sister in law, Betty Comer of Colfax; numerous nieces and nephews, and a dear friend, Peggy Liles. Funeral services will be conducted 11:00 am Tuesday, June 16th in the Ellerbe Chapel of Carter Funeral Home with Rev. Donald Daniel officiating. Interment will follow in Ellerbe Cemetery. The family will see friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home and other times at 113 Mill St., Ellerbe. A special thank you to the staff of Rockingham Manor who were a blessing to our mother and to the family in her final years.
