William Marvin ”Bill” Black, 82, of Ellerbe, passed away Wednesday, August 3, 2016 at home. Bill was born November 28, 1933 in Moore County, a son of the late George Marvin and Lula McKenzie Black. He had served his country for 14 years in the US Army during the Korean War and the Cold War. He was a member of First Presbyterian Church Ellerbe where he had served as a deacon and was a member of West End Lodge # AF&AM. For many years he owned and operated a construction equipment company and later drove for the O’Neal School. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Blanche Thompson Black, his daughter, Amy Dick and grandson David Dick. Surviving are his sons, William Black, Jr. (Wanda) of Jackson Springs, David Black (Penny) of Candor; step sons, Thomas Craven (Terry) of Rockingham, Barry Craven (Renee) of Ellerbe; grandchildren, Casey Black (Cathy), Paige Black, Sherry Mills (Allen), Kristy Parsons, Rob Ester (Morgan) Jennie Black, Courtney Craven, Candace Craven, Hannah Craven, Brooke Growe (Nathan), Katie Webster (Wesley); great grandchildren, Cade Black, Gus Webster. Jarrett Mills, Kaylin Mills, Logan Weller, Kyra Black; brothers, Earl Black of Robbins, Floyd Black of Eastwood and James Black of Fayetteville and special friend, Marie Greene of Ellerbe. Funeral services will be at 2 pm Sunday at First Presbyterian Church, Ellerbe with Rev. Stan Layton and Rev. James Watson officiating. Interment will follow in Mt. Carmel Presbyterian Church Cemetery. The family will see friends from 6 to 8 pm Saturday at Carter Funeral Home in Ellerbe and at other times at 268 Church St., Ellerbe.
