Robert Watkins Maddrey

Robert Watkins Maddrey, 88 of Ellerbe, passed away Thursday, September 1, 2016. Mr. Maddrey was born February 27, 1928, in Forsyth County, a son of the late James Theodore and Katherine Dury Maddrey. He was a graduate of Hugh Morrison High School in Raleigh, attended NC State University, served in the US Army Reserves, was a volunteer for the Billy Graham Ministries for over 30 years and retired after 31 years from The Defense Mapping Agency as a Cartographer. He was preceded in death by his wife, Kitty Williams Maddrey. Surviving are sons, Robert Dury Maddrey of Fort Lauderdale, FL, James Winston Maddrey (Vicky) of Hampstead MD; 5 grandchildren; 2 great grandchildren; and brothers James Theodore Maddrey, Jr. of Raleigh and George Dury Maddrey of Virginia Beach. A service to celebrate his life will be at 4 pm Saturday September 17, 2016 at Fellowship Baptist Church in Ellerbe with Rev. Bill Monroe officiating.
