Jerry Clayton Carriker, 72, of Ellerbe, passed away Sunday, November 20, 2016 at his home. Jerry was born July 19, 1944 in Moore County, a son of the late Robert Clayton and Kate Sugg Carriker. He had served his country in the US Marine Corps during the Vietnam War, was a member and former deacon of First Presbyterian Church in Ellerbe and had been a member of the Ellerbe Civitan Club. He was a graducate of Ellerbe High School, Class of 1962 and had attended Appalachian State University and Campbell College. A farmer at heart, he was the owner and operator of Farm Supply in Ellerbe for over 38 years. He was one of the original fireman with Mt. Creek Volunteer Fire Department, which was built on land given by his parents. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Jerry Scott Carriker and a sister, Bobbie Carriker. Surviving are his wife, Jane Hollingsworth Carriker of the home; son, Robert Sugg “Bob” Carriker of Ellerbe; sister, Linda Snead of Ellerbe and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be at 11 am Wednesday at First Presbyterian Church in Ellerbe with Rev. Stan Layton and Rev. James Watson officiating. Interment, with military honors, will follow in Ellerbe Cemetery. The family will see friends from 9:45 to 10:45 am Wednesday in the fellowship hall of First Presbyterian Church in Ellerbe and at other times at the home.
