Gordon Winfield Hupp died August 4, 2009 at his home. Mr. Hupp was born October 4, 1924 in Mount Olive Township, Meggs County, Ohio. He was the son of the late Jonathon Ray Hupp and Rose Ann Johnson Hupp. He grew up in Bridgeport, Ohio, and graduated from Bridgeport High School. He was a Life Scout. Mr. Hupp was a sergeant in the Army Air Corps serving from March 1943 until February 1946. He married Mary Louise Dittrick of St. Clairsville, Ohio on April 28, 1946. Mr. Hupp graduated from Pittsburgh Diesel and Automotive School and moved to Erwin, Tennessee in 1951 and worked for Clenchfield Railroad for thirty five years, where he was Supervisor of Work and Welding Equipment. He transferred to Hamlet, NC and was Assistant General Supervisor of Working Equipment for CSX Railroad. He moved to Oak Island in 1995. Mr. Hupp was preceded in death by his first wife, Mary Louise Dittrick, who died in 1990. Surviving is his wife, Betty Pigg Hupp, whom he married March 6, 1993; two sons, Jon Alden Hupp and Michael Gordon Hupp; a daughter, Barbara Ann Long; and two step children, Charles David Walters and Julia Walters Rose. A family and friends graveside service will be conducted 11:00 am Saturday, August 8th at Eastside Cemetery in Rockingham. Peacock-Newnam & White Funeral and Cremation Service in Southport and Carter Funeral Home in Rockingham are assisting the Hupp family.
