George Raymond Newby

George Raymond Newby, 78, of Hamlet, passed away Tuesday, December 27, 2016 at Hospice Haven in Rockingham. Mr. Newby was born March 24, 1938 in Murray County, OK, a son of the late George Francis Newby and Delia Frost Newby Williams. He had served his country in the US Army and had retired from Betchel Coporation. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Bonnie Lou Taylor Newby, brothers, Luther and Jerry Williams, and sisters, Ruby Pinkston, Edith Stowell and Susie Lehman. Surviving are children, Christal Williams of Hamlet, Khristopher Taylor of Bennettsville, Mary Dawn Hendricks of Cincinnati, OH, Billy Winn Thomas of Orlando, FL, Marcy Faulkenberry and Kelly Anthony;12 grandchildren; 18 great grandchildren; brother, Samuel Williams and sisters, Mary Jensen of Oklahoma City, OK and Della Gates of Rockingham. A service to celebrate Mr. Newby’s life will be at 5pm Tuesday at Carter Funeral Home in Rockingham with Rev. Jim Langford officiating.
