Mrs. Dorothy Beatrice Davis, 86, formerly of Ellerbe, died Sunday, August 9, 2009 at Del Mar Gardens Continuing Care Facility in Lawrenceville, GA. She was born August 3, 1923 in Richmond County, the 12th of 13 children to Adam and Julie Farmer of Rockingham. Mrs. Davis was a graduate of the Women’s College of the University of North Carolina in Greensboro where she majored in Business Education and Merchandising. After college she moved to Atlanta, GA where she worked for Rich’s Department Stores and later to Detroit, MI to work for Kern Company and then to Greensboro, NC where she worked for Meyers Dept. Stores. She returned to Rockingham to marry R. C. Davis of Ellerbe and began teaching in the Rockingham and Ellerbe City Schools where she retired. Mrs. Davis was a member of First Baptist Church in Ellerbe for over fifty years. She was active with the Ellerbe Lions Club as a Lioness and was a volunteer with 4-H, Hospice and SHIP. Funeral services will be conducted 2:00 pm Friday, August 14th at First Baptist Church in Ellerbe with Rev. Dr. Jim Brown officiating. Interment will follow in Chappell Cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church. Surviving is a sister, Lila Farmer Altman of Clinton, MS. Her husband of thirty seven years, Raymond Covington Davis, preceded Mrs. Davis in death.
