Helen Phillips Comer of Ellerbe passed away on January 25, 2017. She was born on August 13, 1924, in Moore County. A daughter of the late Lonnie Green and Mattie Green Shields Phillips, she was married to former Ellerbe mayor, Joseph Lindsay Comer. For more than forty years, she owned and operated Helen’s Beauty Shop in Ellerbe. She was a member of Mt. Carmel Presbyterian Church. Helen was preceded in death by her husband of fifty-seven years; her brothers, Glenn, Eli, L.G. Jr. and Joe Phillips; and her sisters, Beatrice Nall, Bonnie Purvis and Alice Johnson. She is survived by two daughters, Kaye Beale (Michael) of Rockingham and Joleen Moore of Ellerbe; three grandchildren, Jordan Beale (Sarah), Amanda Cloninger (Bryan), and Logan Moore; four great grandchildren, Abigail, Eli, Hannah and Tyler; as well as her sister, Dorothy McFayden of Ellerbe. Services will be held at Mt. Carmel Presbyterian Church on Saturday, January 28, at 2:00 p.m. with the Reverend James Watson officiating. Interment will follow at the family cemetery. The family will receive friends 6:00-8:00 p.m. on Friday, January 27, at Carter Funeral Home in Ellerbe and other times at Helen’s home. Memorials may be made to Ellerbe Rescue Squad, Richmond County Hospice, or Our Daily Bread Food Ministry.
