Lottie Ruth McDonald, 95, of Rockingham, went to be with her Lord, Monday, March 13, 2017 at her home, surrounded by family and friends. Mrs. McDonald was born October 14, 1921 in Chesterfield County, SC, a daughter of the late Joseph and Emma Elizabeth McDougald Guinn. She was a member of Victory Baptist Church. She worked for many years with Klopman Mills and ADS, but her passion was cooking and caring for others. She was famous for her fried chicken, dumplings and biscuits. Throughout her 95 years, she touched many lives and was a caregiver to many. She treasured her family and loved all her babies – no matter what they called her – Mama, Grandma, Granny, Nanny Mac, Grandma Granny, Grandma Ruthie, Meme and Aunt Lottie Ruth. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Wilbert Wilson McDonald and a daughter, Brenda Watson Potter. Surviving are her daughters, Joan Woods of Hamlet, Emma Jean McDonald Smith (David) of Raeford, Janice McDonald Starling (John) of Rockingham, Priscilla McDonald Herring of Hamlet and Vickie McDonald of the home; 22 grandchildren; 36 great grandchildren and 21 great great grandchildren. Funeral services will be at 3pm Thursday at Victory Baptist Church with Rev. Russell Edwards officiating. Interment will follow in Richmond County Memorial Park. The family will see friends from 6 to 8 pm Wednesday at Carter Funeral Home in Rockingham and at other times at the home.
