Edward Lee Poplin, 80, of Rockingham, passed away Wednesday, March 15, 2017 at his home. Mr. Poplin was born October 3, 1936 in Richmond County, a son of the late Oscar Underwood and Jessie Lee Leviner Poplin. He was a member of Touch of Grace Free Will Baptist Church, had served his country in the US Marine Corps and the Army National Guard. He was a member of VFW Post 147 and had worked with Delco Industries. Prior to moving to Rockingham, he lived in the Fredrick, Maryland area, where he sold R.V.’s and owned a campground. For over 27 years, he was the opening performer at country music star, Merle Haggard’s concerts. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Karen Poplin, sons, Charles and Paul Poplin and a brother, Jimmy Poplin. Surviving are his wife, Darice Morgan Poplin of the home; children, Teresa Boswell (Kenneth) of Rockingham, Catherine Chavis (Sammy) of Rockingham, Tanya Currin (Gene) of Maxton, Glenn Poplin of Laurinburg; 7 grandchildren; 19 great grandchildren and sisters, Ereline McDonald of Rockingham, Lib Poplin of Hamlet, Pearl Goins (Gary) of Rockingham and Linda Rivers (Jerry) of Charlotte. A service to celebrate Mr. Poplin’s life will be at 3 pm Sunday at Touch of Grace Free Will Baptist Church with Rev. John Daniel officiating. Inurnment with military honors will be at 3pm Sunday, March 26 at RIchmond County Memorial Park. The family will see friends following the service at the church and at other times at the home.
