Harlan Eugene Joyce

Harlan Eugene Joyce, 82, of Ellerbe, passed away Tuesday, March 21, 2017 at his home. Mr. Joyce was born September 21, 1934 in Stokes County, a son of the late Charlie and Leanna Darnell Joyce. He was a member of First Baptist Church in Ellerbe and the Laurinburg and Ellerbe Lions Clubs. He had worked with Sinclair Building Supply and McDonald Brothers, Inc. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Margaret Covington Joyce, brother, Charlie Ray Joyce and sisters, Lanelle Baxley and Rhoelle Capps. Surviving are his wife, Ruth Threadgill Goins Joyce of the home; son, Rev. Eric Joyce of Southern Pines; Pamela Warrick of Hampstead; 5 grandchildren; step-children, Howard Goins of Ellerbe, Sherry Glover of Ellerbe and sisters, Marlene Lowder of Mt. Gilead and Dathia Lee of Ellerbe. Funeral services will be at 2pm Friday at First Baptist Church in Ellerbe with Rev. Dr. Jim Brown officiating. Interment will follow in Ellerbe Cemetery. The family will see friends from 6 to 8 pm Thursday at Carter Funeral Home in Ellerbe and at other times at the home. Memorials may be made to Liberty Home Care and Hospice in Southern Pines, First Baptist Church of Ellerbe or Ellerbe Lions Club.
