Roland Hampton Jones, Jr., 83, of Rockingham, passed away Monday, April 3, 2017 at Hospice Haven in Rockingham. R.H. was born October 24, 1933 in Anson County, a son of the late Roland Hampton and Julia Mae Tarlton Jones. He had served his country in the US Army, was a member of West Rockingham United Methodist Church and retired from CSX Railroad. He was also a member of Rockingham Masonic Lodge, #495, A.F.& A.M., the Scottish Rite Bodies, the Oasis Temple of the Shrine and the Order of the Eastern Star. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, Ronald D. “Ron” Jones and brothers William and Harold Jones. Surviving are his wife of 59 years, Bobbie Snuggs Jones of the home; brothers and sisters, Lois Steele of Wadesboro, Doris Ellis of Morrisville, Polly Becker of Finksburg, MD, Jerry Jones of Wadesboro, Susie Curtiss of Wadesboro, Gay Van Brero (Erik) of Lake Tillery and Clayton Jones (Carolyn) of Grifton. Funeral services will be at 11 am Thursday at West Rockingham United Methodist Church with Rev. Paul Haber officiating. Interment will follow in Eastside Cemetery. The family will see friends from 5 to 7 pm Wednesday at Carter Funeral Home in Rockingham and at other times at the home.
