Wriston Lee Deese, 68, of Rockingham, passed away Tuesday, April 25, 2017 at Pruitt Healthcare in Rockingham. Mr. Deese was born June 9, 1948 in Richmond County, a son of the late Dewey Dawson and Lois Yandle Deese. He attended Outreach for Jesus and had been a service station manager. He was best known for his street ministry, where he was called the mailbox preacher. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, James Deese. Surviving are his wife, Rebecca Threadgill Deese of the home; daughter, Sherry Ann Webb of Fayetteville; 4 grandchildren; 1 great grandchild; brother, Gary Deese of Aberdeen and nieces and nephews, Gary Deese, Jr., Wayne Deese, Kathy VanBoskerck, Laura Dick, Teresa Hardy and Lisa Threadgill. Funeral services will be at 3 pm Sunday at Carter Funeral Home in Rockingham with Bishop Marvin Taylor and Rev. Walter Newton officiating. Interment will follow in Eastside Cemetery. The family will see friends from 6 to 8 pm Saturday at Carter Funeral Home in Rockingham and at other times at the home of Patricia Adams, 129 Sycamore Lane, Hamlet.
