Nicki Moore

Margaret Leak Moore, 65, of Rockingham died peacefully Friday, September 4, 2009, at Hospice Haven. She was born January 20, 1944, in Wadesboro, a daughter of the late Peggy Nickels Leak and Thomas Randolph Leak. Ms. Moore was a 1961 graduate of Rockingham High School and a 1964 graduate of East Carolina University. She was a dedicated educator of forty-four years, whose love for Richmond Senior High School was evidenced by her leadership in many extracurricular activities. To students she was a senior English teacher, the Beta Club and yearbook advisor, and a trusted confidante. To faculty and staff she was an organizer, a leader in her field, and an inspiration in so many ways. By all, she will be remembered for her quick wit, her infectious sense of humor, and her love for education. Funeral services will be conducted 3:00 pm Monday, September 7th at the First United Methodist Church in Rockingham with Rev. Mike Sykes, Rev. Allison Coltrane, and Chris Leak officiating. Interment will follow in Eastside Cemetery. Surviving are a daughter, Nancy Moore Barbee and husband James of Hillsborough; two grandchildren, Bethany Blair Barbee and Bradley Thomas Barbee; a brother, Randy Leak and wife Margaret of Rockingham; and two nephews, Tommy Leak and Chris Leak. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service in the fellowship hall at the church. In lieu of flowers, the family has established the Nicki Moore Scholarship Fund.
