Edith Gainey Parsons, 80, of Ellerbe, passed away Thursday, June 15, 2017 at her home. Mrs. Parsons was born October 7, 1936 in Richmond County, a daughter of the late Rosieh and Janie Jernigan Gainey. She was a member of Rourk Presbyterian Church, was a homemaker, farmer and at one time worked with Carters Furniture in Biscoe. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Sherrill Leon Parsons, brother, Cleveland “Catfish” Gainey, sisters, Beatrice “Bea” Kellis, Lillie Mae Horne, Margaret Brigman and son-in-law, Jimmy Sessoms. Surviving are her children, Marie Sessoms of Hope Mills, Sherry Alfanso (Barry) of Buford, GA, Joyce Shepard (Jeff) of Ellerbe, David Parsons (Susan “Sue”) of Ellerbe, Teresa Allen (Lewis) of Ellerbe, William Parsons (Susan) of Ellerbe, Benjamin ”Benji” Parsons (Kelli) of Ellerbe; 17 grandchildren and 17 great grandchildren. Funeral services will be at 2pm Saturday at Rourk Presbyterian Church with Rev. Shawn Morrison, Rev. Jamie Smith and Rev. John Stone officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. The family will see friends from 6 to 8 pm Friday at Carter Funeral Home in Ellerbe and at other times at the home.
