William Thomas Campbell, 77, of Rockingham, passed away Friday, June 23, 2017 at Hospice Haven in Rockingham. Mr. Campbell was born October 18, 1939 in Richmond County, a son of the late Daniel Elias and Evelyn Grice Campbell. He was a graduate of NC State University and had retired from the North Carolina Department of Transportation as District Engineer. He was a longtime member of Pleasant Grove Baptist Church, where he served on the Cemetery Committee and was very dedicated to the upkeep of the cemetery. An avid sportsman, one of his favorite past times was flounder fishing with his beloved wife. He also enjoyed gardening and woodworking. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Nancy Lee Garner. Surviving are his wife of 55 years, Cynthia Webb Campbell of the home; sons, Tommy Campbell (Tammy), Bryon Campbell and Roger Campbell, all of Rockingham; grandchildren, Ashley Sullivan and Matthew Campbell; brothers, Stancil Campbell and Howard Campbell, both of Rockingham and Francis Campbell of Wadesboro and special aunt, Janie Belle Campbell. He is also survived by special friends, Joe Clendenin and G. R. Kindley. Funeral services will be at 11 am Tuesday at Pleasant Grove Baptist Church with Rev. Tommy Butler officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. The family will greet friends following the service in the fellowship hall and at other times at the home.
