William F. Griffin, 96, of Rockingham, passed away Saturday, July 8, 2017 at his daughter’s home in Rockingham. Mr. Griffin was born January 17, 1921 in Richmond County, a son of the late William L. and Mattie Brown Griffin. He was a longtime member of Glenwood United Methodist Church and had retired from Avondale Mills (Beaunit). He had served his country in the US Army during World War II and was an avid vegetable gardener. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Edith Hines Griffin, a daughter, Peggy Barnes and a grandson, Taylor Griffin Gunter. Surviving are his children, Billy Griffin (Crystal), Doris McInnis (Bradley) and Barbara Mozingo, all of Rockingham; 10 grandchildren, many great grandchildren, several great grandchildren; brother, Floyd Griffin of Hamlet and sisters, Molly McGowan Thomas of High Point and Lois Stewart of Charlotte. Funeral services will be at 3pm Tuesday at Glenwood United Methodist Church with Rev. Bryan Perry officiating. Interment will follow in Richmond County Memorial Park. The family will see friends from 1:45 to 2:45 pm Tuesday in the fellowship hall of Glenwood United Methodist Church. Memorials may be made to the Prayer Garden of Glenwood United Methodist Church.
