Roscoe Smith, 92, of Rockingham, passed away Friday, July 14, 2017 at FirstHealth Moore Regional Hospital in Pinehurst. Mr. Smith was born July 3, 1925 in Wapello County, Iowa, a son of the late John Wesley and Ollie Taylor Smith. He had proudly served his country in the US Navy during World War II , was a member of First Assembly in Rockingham and had retired from J. C. Penny Co. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his siblings and a step son, Mike Cain. Surviving are his wife, Frances Layton Cain Smith of the home; step-children, Patricia Herring (Jimmy) of Rockingham, Jimmy Cain, Jr. (Debbie) of Rockingham, Mary Linda Sharpe (Phillip) of Hamlet; step-grandchildren, Jamie Herring, Stephanie Cain, Jennifer Cain, Christy Cain, Ronnie Collins and step-great grandchildren, Dalton Cain, Christian Stovall, Michael Stovall, Riley Pellerino, Xander Khrangtong, Colt Cain and Summer Collins. Funeral services will be at 11 am Wednesday at First Assembly with Pastor Gene Alexander officiating. Interment with Military Honors will follow in Richmond County Memorial Park. The family will see friends from 6 to 8 pm Tuesday at Carter Funeral Home in Rockingham and at other times at the home.
