Mr. Norris Lee Dawkins, 80, passed away Thursday, November 5, 2009 at his home after a brief illness. He was a lifetime resident of Richmond County, a son of the late William Lee Dawkins and Virginia McCaskill Dawkins. Mr. Dawkins was the owner of Dawkins Produce, a wholesale produce business. He was a member of First Presbyterian Church, where he sang in the choir for many years. Mr. Dawkins was a music professional, having recorded with Lonestar Records in Dallas, Texas. He loved his family, work, and music. Funeral services will be conducted 2:00 pm Sunday, November 8, 2009 at First Presbyterian Church in Rockingham with Rev. Dwight Williams officiating. Interment will follow in Richmond Memorial Park. Surviving are his daughters, Beverly D. Pittman and husband James of Wilmington, Lisa Dawkins of Wilmington, and Monica L. Meachum and husband Tony of Rockingham; two grandchildren, Zachary William-Lee Meachum and Molly Ruth-Anne Meachum; a brother, William Glenn Dawkins and wife Faye of Rockingham; sister-in-laws, Martha Ann Bray Scarborough of Rockingham, Earlene Bray of Goldsboro and Onia Russell Bray of Laurinburg; and a number of nieces and nephews. Mr. Dawkins was preceded in death by his beloved wife of fifty-eight years, Muriel B. Dawkins. The family will receive friends Saturday evening from 6 to 8 pm at Carter Funeral Home in Rockingham.
