Mrs. Hazel Phifer Smith 79, of 904 Richmond Road, Rockingham, passed away Thursday, November 5, 2009 at her home. Mrs. Smith was born Aril 23, 1930 in Anson County, North Carolina, a daughter of the late William Raymond and Arranna Parker Phifer. She was a member of Park Avenue Presbyterian Church where she was active in many activities. She was presented an Honorary Life Membership in the Presbyterian Women in 1995. A loving wife, mother and grandmother; she made her home and family her career. Surviving are her husband of 62 years, Jack Harold Smith of the home; daughters and sons-in-law, Linda and Dan Duncan of Valdese, NC, Judy and Bill Campbell of Rockingham; a sister, Betty Weaver of Rockingham; grandchildren, Heather Duncan of Parkville, MD, Trey Campbell and companion Martha Osborne, of Rockingham, Joshua Duncan and wife Lindsay of Mount Pleasant, SC, Crystal Bower and husband Matthew of Cameron, NC and a great grandson, Jackson Campbell Bower of Cameron. A service to celebrate Mrs. Smith’s life will be held at 3:30 PM Sunday from Park Avenue Presbyterian Church with Rev. Gary Richardson officiating. Interment will follow in Richmond County Memorial Park. The family will see friends from 5:00 –7:00 PM Saturday at Carter Funeral Home in Rockingham and at other times at the home on Richmond Road.
