Charles Albert Martin

Mr. Charles Albert Martin, 85, of Rockingham, died Monday, December 7, 2009 at Somerset Court of Hamlet. Mr. Martin was born June 10, 1924 in Cherokee County, SC, a son of the late Luke and Vera Parris Martin. He served his country in the US Army during World War II, was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ, Latter Day Saints and had retired from CSX Railroad after 34 years of service. Surviving are his wife, Myrtie Flowers Martin of the home; daughter, Pamela Martin Turnage of Rockingham; grandchildren, Kerry Turnage of Rockingham, Christie Gainey and husband Chuck of Hamlet; great grandchildren, Caden and Carson Gainey, Peyton and Aubrie Turnage; brothers, Tony Martin of Rockingham, Merle Martin of Barnwell, SC; and a sister, Marilyn Page of California. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 PM Thursday in the Colonial Chapel of Carter Funeral Home with Buddy Flowers officiating. Interment with Military Honors will follow in Richmond County Memorial Park. The family will see friends from 6:00 – 8:00 PM Wednesday at Carter Funeral Home and at other times at the home.
