Sudie Smith

Mrs. Doris “ Sudie” Warner Smith, 90, of 103 Cox Street, Rockingham, died Thursday, December 10, 2009 at FirstHealth Moore Regional Hospital in Pinehurst. Mrs. Smith was born November 4, 1919 in Montgomery County, NC, a daughter of the late Minnie Batton Warner Ledbetter and Cell Warner. She was a member of New Hope Free Will Baptist Church and a homemaker. She was a seamstress and enjoyed making cakes for friends and family. Mrs. Smith was preceded in death by her husband, David Mauney Smith, daughter, Phyllis S. Purvis, a sister, Mary Elizabeth Ruth, and brothers, E. C. Warner, Lee Warner, and Henry F. Warner. Surviving are her son; Michael F. “Mickey” Smith and wife Linda of Rockingham; grandchildren, David Purvis and Joy Batton, both of Albemarle, Betty Kester and Stephen Smith, both of Rockingham and Shelley Lampley of Hamlet; and 5 great grandchildren. Funeral services will be conducted 2:00 PM Sunday in the Colonial Chapel of Carter Funeral Home with Rev. Allen Hudson and Rev. David Parrish officiating. Interment will follow in Richmond County Memorial Park with Rev. Joe Wilkes, Jr. officiating The family will see friends from 3:00 – 5:00 PM Saturday at Carter Funeral Home and at other times at the Smith Home, 132 Springdale Dr. Rockingham, NC.
