Helen Swails

Mrs. Helen Goodwin Swails, 85, of 187 Cartledge Creek Rd., Rockingham died Thursday, December 17, 2009 at her home of natural causes. She was born June 18, 1924 in Richmond County, a daughter of the late Ida Hinson Goodwin and J. W. Goodwin. Mrs. Swails was a life long member of West Rockingham United Methodist Church. She was employed with J. P. Stevens for over twenty years and retired from Belk’s of Rockingham with fifteen years of service. Funeral services will be conducted 2:00 pm Sunday, December 20, 2009 at West Rockingham United Methodist Church with Rev. Don Dawkins officiating. Interment will follow in Richmond Memorial Park. Surviving is her husband of sixty four years, Paul T. Swails, Sr.; son, Sonny Swails and wife Cathy of Stuart, VA; grandchildren, Tal Swails and wife Missy of Stuart, VA and Blaire Swails of Centreville, VA; great grandsons, Taylor and Tucker Swails, both of Stuart, VA; and a brother, Tommy Goodwin of Rockingham. Mrs. Swails was preceded in death by her parents and brothers, John, Lendo, Edward, and Harry, and sisters, Bessie and Jennie. The family will receive friends Saturday evening from 6 to 8 pm at Carter Funeral Home in Rockingham and other times at the home.
