Dorothy Melton Ballard

Dorothy Elizabeth Melton Ballard, 89, of Rockingham, died Friday, December 25, 2009 at Hospice Haven in Rockingham. Mrs. Ballard was born August 7, 1920 in Mecklenburg County, NC, a daughter of the late R.T. and Kittie Haywood Melton. She was a member of Jesus First Free Will Baptist Church and a retired private duty nurses aide. Her husbands, William J. Miller and Clyde Ballard, a daughter, Elizabeth Tura Williams and stepchildren, Bonnie Warnches and Don Ballard preceded her in death. Surviving are her daughter, Annette Osborn of Downington, PA,; step sons, Clyde Ballard, Jr. of Wheaton, Ill, Harvey Ballard of Arab, Ala, and Curtis Ballard of Ill; 15 grandchildren and 30 great grandchildren. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 AM Wednesday at Jesus First Free Will Baptist Church with Rev. Jerry Smith officiating. Interment will be private in Ellerbe Cemetery. The family will see friends one hour prior to the service at the church on Wednesday. Memorials may be made to Richmond County Hospice, 1119 N. US Hwy 1, Rockingham, NC 28379.
