Joseph Oliver Hines, 79, of Rockingham, died Friday, December 25, 2009 at FirstHealth Moore Regional Hospital in Pinehurst. Joe was born August 8, 1930 in Richmond County, a son of the late John Robert Hines and the late Myrtle Haltom Hines Allen. Joe retired as a Master Sergeant from the United States Air Force in 1969 after 22 years of service to his country. He served overseas and domestic tours during peacetime and the Korean and Vietnam Wars. He was a member of Rockingham Masonic Lodge #495, A.F. & A.M.. Following retirement from military service, he became and entrepreneur and a real estate investor. He was the owner and operator of Richmond Pool Center and Raider Country Golf and Games. Joe was devoted to his family, a loving father and grandfather. Joe was preceded in death by his wife, Geneva Griffith Hines, his daughter, Sandra Clifton, brothers, Jack and Carlton Hines, and sisters, Doris Pietrzak, Edith Griffin and Mary Yandle. Surviving are his daughter, Tammy Hines of Rockingham; son, Joseph Hines, Jr. and wife Leslie of Cary, NC; grandchildren, Felycia Clifton, Amber Clifton, Tara Thompson, Keegan Hines and Rory Hines; brothers, John Robert Hines of Fayetteville, Harold R. Hines of Rockingham and James T. Hines of Bennettsville, SC; and a step brother, Jerry Allen of Rockingham. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM Tuesday in the Colonial Chapel of Carter Funeral Home with Rev. Marshall Norris officiating. Interment will follow in Bear Branch Cemetery with Military Honors. The family will see friends from 12:45 – 1:45 PM Tuesday at the funeral home and at other times at the Hines home, 110 Woodland Dr. Rockingham.
