George William Campbell, Jr.

George William “ Bill” Campbell,Jr. 59, of 320 Lakeland Dr., Rockingham, died Friday, January 15, 2010 at FirstHealth Richmond Memorial Hospital in Rockingham. Bill was born July 12, 1950 in Richmond County, a son of Audrey O. Campbell and the late George William Campbell. He was a graduate of Rockingham High School, Class of 1969 and Sandhills Community College. Bill had been employed with the Richmond County Sheriff’s Department as a detention officer and was a member of the Sandhills Shag Club. Surviving are his wife of 34 years, Judy Smith Campbell of the home; son, George William “Trey” Campbell, III and companion Martha Osborne, of Rockingham; daughter Crystal Bower and husband Matthew of Cameron; his mother, Audrey O. Campbell of Rockingham; and his grandson, Jackson Campbell Bower, who was a great joy in Bill’s life. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM Monday in the Colonial Chapel of Carter Funeral Home. Interment will follow in Richmond County Memorial Park. The family will see friends from 5:00 – 7:00 PM Sunday at Carter Funeral Home and at other times at the home on Lakeland Dr. Memorials may be made to Community Home Care and Hospice, 1015 Fayetteville Rd., Rockingham, NC 28379.
