Michael Orr

Mr. Michael Otis Orr, 53, of 256 Homeplace Rd., Rockingham died Monday, January 18, 2010 at Carolinas Medical Center-Northeast in Concord. He was born October 15, 1956 in Richmond County, a son of Joyce Bogan Orr and the late Otis Olen Orr. Michael was a member of Community Church and was retired with twenty years of service with the U.S. Postal Service. He served in the U. S. Army with the 82nd Airborne Division. Funeral services will be conducted 2:00 pm Friday, January 22, 2010 at Community Church with Rev. Mitchell Roller officiating. Interment will follow in Richmond Memorial Park with military honors. Surviving in addition to his mother, Joyce Orr, is his wife, Debra Barker Orr of the home; a daughter, Jenifer Orr Wolfe (Neil) of West End; a son, Michael Kevin Orr (Shelia) of Hamlet; grandchildren, Chandler Orr, Benjamin Wolfe, and Matthew Wolfe; step children, Adam Blakely, Joy Smothers, and Danny Blakely, Jr.; step grandchildren, Timothy Smothers, Davey Smothers, Ashlynd McKenna, Kailyn Blakely, and Michael Blakely; a brother, Mitchell Orr of Rockingham; sisters, Sherry Ratliff (Ronnie) of Senoia, GA and Tammie Orr (Linda) of Sanford; and Michael’s beloved cocker spaniel, Annie. He was preceded in death by his father, Otis Orr. The family will receive friends Thursday evening from 6 to 8 pm at Carter Funeral Home in Rockingham.
