James Garland Kanipe, 104, of Rockingham, passed away Saturday, February 13th, 2010, at Kings Wood Nursing Home, Aberdeen, N.C. Mr. Kanipe was born August 17th, 1905, in Alexander County and was a native of Richmond County. Son of the late A.B. and Artie Kilbey Kanipe. He married his sweetheart, Wilma Hudson Kanipe on Nov. 8th, 1924. There was nothing he enjoyed better than his large family and many friends. His great sense of humor and infectious laugh was a blessing to all. He was well known for the many parades he and his Boston Terriers pulling their little wagon were in. He enjoyed telling little cute tales and jokes. His life was long and full and his motto was always "take the best and leave the rest". In addition to his parents and loving spouse, Mr. Kanipe was preceded in death by six brothers Ronnie, John, Garrison, Craig, Dail, and Joe. Three sisters, Ruth, Thelma, and Gladys. One son, Franklin. He is survived by son, Gene Kanipe, of Rockingham, daughters, Louise K. Renfro, of Charlotte, and Lottie K. Barbee, of Aberdeen. One sister Ninner Ramsey, of Gastonia. Ten grandchildren, twenty-three great grandchildren, and fifteen great-great grandchildren. The family will receive friends from 2:00PM until 3:00PM, Saturday, February 20th, at Carter Funeral Home, in Rockingham. Graveside services will be held at Richmond County Memorial Park at 3:30PM.
