Mary Gillis

Mrs. Mary Bowers Gillis, 59, of Ellerbe died Tuesday, March 16, 2010 at her home. She was born June 3, 1950 in Richmond County, a daughter of the late William Edgar Bowers and Lena Mae Smith Bowers. Mrs. Gillis had been employed in textiles, prior to a disability. Funeral services will be conducted graveside 2:00 pm Thursday, March 18, 2010 at Chappell Cemetery with Rev. Joe Wilkes and Steve Collins officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at Carter Funeral Home in Ellerbe and other times at 145 Bowers Lane, Ellerbe. Surviving is a daughter, Tina Peed of Hamlet; two sons, Aaron Gillis of Ellerbe and Daniel Gillis; fiancé, Lester Hines; seven grandchildren and two great grandchildren; sisters, Joyce Tucker and Betty Wood, both of Ellerbe, and Irene Richardson of Wilmington; brothers, Ronnie Bowers, Cleveland Bowers, and Jerry Bowers, all of Ellerbe, James Bowers of Rockingham, and William Bowers of Troy. Mrs. Gillis was preceded in death by brothers, Elsie Lee Bowers and Melvin Bowers. Carter Funeral Home in Ellerbe is assisting Mrs. Gillis’ family.
