Larry Saunders

Mr. Larry Sherrill Saunders, 69, of 872 McDonald Church Rd., Rockingham died Tuesday, August 22, 2006 at his home. He was born March 2, 1937 in Richmond Co., a son of the late Nannie Tilton and Jessie Saunders. Mr. Saunders was a member at Roberdel Baptist Church. He was retired from CSX Railroad and was currently employed with Richmond County at the Hoffman Collection Convenience Center. Mr. Saunders was the Manager of Concessions at Richmond Senior High. He, also, served in the US Army and the National Guard. Funeral services will be conducted 4:00 pm Thursday at Roberdel Baptist Church with Rev. Leon Hawks and Rev. Chris Smith officiating. Interment will follow in Richmond Memorial Park with military honors. Surviving are his wife of twenty three years, Mary Ellen McLean Saunders of the home; a daughter, Shannon Bradley and husband Michael of Charlotte, two sons, Larry Sherrill Saunders, Jr. of Rockingham and Daniel Hart and wife Amanda of Rockingham; two grandsons, Austin McLean Hart and Riley Pace Hart; two sisters, Joyce Speight of Rockingham, and Carole Eliason of Surfside Beach, SC; and one brother, Wilber Saunders of Matthews. He was preceded in death by three sisters, Madge Saunders, Edna Grant, and Agnes Lassiter, and four brothers, Ernest Saunders, Lee Royce Saunders, Lonnie Saunders, and Albert Saunders. The family will receive friends Wednesday evening from 6 to 8 pm at Carter Funeral Home in Rockingham. Memorials may be made to Richmond County Hospice, PO Box 2136, Rockingham, NC 28380.
