Robert Hugh Rankin, II

Robert Hugh Rankin, II, went to be with the Lord on Thursday, April 22, 2010. Hugh was a loving husband, devoted father and genuine friend to all who knew him. Hugh was born October 7, 1952 in Moore County, a son of the late Robert Hugh and Betty Nelson Rankin. He was a graduate of Ellerbe High School. His career spanned many facets of finance. Hugh served the Lord and his community as a Deacon, superintendent of Sunday School, teacher and choir member of Cobb Memorial Baptist Church. He was an avid reader and enjoyed grilling out with family and friends. Hugh is survived by his wife of 37 years, Vickie Mauldin Rankin of the home; children, Robert Hugh “Robbie” Rankin, III and wife Grace Tyson Rankin, of Charleston, SC, Wendy Rankin Diggs and husband Jeff Diggs, of Rockingham; grandchildren, Zachary Parker, Haley Parker and Josh Diggs; siblings, Debbie Rankin of Ellerbe, Marc Rankin and wife Bonnie Henderson Rankin of Columbia, SC, and Melanie Rankin Glidewell and husband Johnny Glidewell of Ellerbe. A service to celebrate Hugh’s life will be held at 2:00 PM Sunday at Cobb Memorial Baptist Church with Rev. Chuck McKnight and Rev. Alex Willoughby officiating. Interment will follow in Ellerbe Cemetery. The family will see friends from 6:00 – 8:00 PM Saturday at Carter Funeral Home in Rockingham and at other times at the home on Nash Dr.
