Annie Glidewell Simmons

Annie Ruth Glidewell Simmons, 88, of Ellerbe, died Tuesday, May 11, 2010 at Pinehurst Health and Rehabilitation Center in Pinehurst. Mrs. Simmons was born November 3, 1921 in Stokes County, a daughter of the late Fred and Elsie Fagg Glidewell. She was a member of First Presbyterian Church in Ellerbe and had retired as a cook at Dixie Burger. Her husband, Thomas S. Simmons, Jr. and a son, William T. Simmons preceded her in death . Surviving are her sons, Fred Simmons and wife Helen of Ellerbe, James Simmons and wife Son of Fayetteville, Paul Simmons and wife Ann Beth of Foxfire Village, Rick Simmons of Rockingham, Ray Simmons and wife Kim of Ellerbe; daughters, Jean Vest and husband Richard of Archdale, Debra Arrington of Greensboro, Carol Hedrick and husband Wayne of New London; 26 grandchildren; 31 great grandchildren; 1 great great grandchild; brother, Rufus Glidewell of Rockingham; and sister, Frances Hill of Ellerbe. Graveside services will be held at 11:00 AM Friday in Ellerbe Cemetery with Rev. James Watson officiating. The family will see friends from 5:30- 7:30 PM Thursday at Carter Funeral Home in Ellerbe and at other times at Fred Simmons home, 540 County Line Road, Ellerbe.
