Janette Stein Mabe, 67, of 195 Marvin McCaskill Rd., Ellerbe, after a long courageous battle with cancer and with family surrounding her, died peacefully on Wednesday, June 2, 2010. Janette was born July 1, 1942 in Richmond County, a daughter of the late Leroy and Dorothy Stephens Stein. She was a graduate of Rohanen High School, Class of 1960, and had retired from J.C. Penny Co., after 17 years of service. She was a member of First Presbyterian Church, PCA of Ellerbe, where she had served as a Sunday school teacher and a youth leader. She had held various offices in her Circle and WIC groups, served on the Bereavement Committee and the Flower Calendar Committee. The church recognized her on May 2, 2010 for her faithful service in the church. She loved her family and her church family. Her sister Janice Williams preceded her in death. Surviving are her husband of 47 years, Robert W. Mabe of the home; daughters, Lisa Dawkins and husband Perry of Ellerbe, Lorie Tatum and companion Mike Stutts of Rockingham, Jill Ward and husband Tony of Rockingham; grandchildren, Morgan Dawkins of Ellerbe, Ben Harris of Rockingham, Makenzie and Macie Ward of Ellerbe; sisters, Judy Campbell of Rockingham, Joyce Bryant of Hamlet, Jennifer Buck of Rockingham; and numerous nieces and nephews. A service to celebrate her life will be held at 11:00 am Saturday at First Presbyterian Church, PCA, of Ellerbe with Rev. James Watson officiating. Interment will follow in Ellerbe Cemetery. The family will see friends from 5:00 – 8:00 pm Friday at Carter Funeral Home in Ellerbe and at other times at the home on Marvin McCaskill Rd..
