Lewis Caddell Russell, 84, of 344 Northside Dr., Rockingham, died Friday, June 11, 2010 at Dosher Memorial Hospital in Southport. Mr. Russell was born November 23,1925 in Richmond County, a son of the late William Claude and Mollie Stutts Russell. He had served his country in the US Navy during World War II and had retired from the North Carolina Department of Transportation. He was an active member of Roberdel Baptist Church, where he had served as a deacon, a Sunday School Teacher, youth leader RA director grounds keeper and many other activities at the church. He was preceded in death by 8 brothers and sisters and a grandson, Trenton Wood. Surviving are his wife of 61 years, Millie Simmons Russell of the home; daughters, Janice Russell and Ronda Webb, both of Rockingham; grandchildren, Kim McLean, Angela Ezzell, Brandon Wood and wife Leahanna, Matthew Wood and wife Melissa; and 3 great grandchildren, Cheyenne, Jakob and Hunter Wood. A service to celebrate his life will be held at 11:00 AM Monday at Roberdel Baptist Church with Rev. Paul Hill officiating. Interment will follow in Eastside Cemetery. The family will see friends from 5:00- 7:00 PM Sunday at Roberdel Baptist Church and at other times at the home on Northside Dr. Memorials may be made to Roberdel Baptist Church, 1118 Richmond Rd., Rockingham, NC 28379.
