Alton Leroy McAuley, 64, of 1284 Haywood Parker Rd., Ellerbe, died Saturday, July 3, 2010 at his home. Alton was born June 8, 1946 in Richmond County, a son of Edith Shaw McAuley and the late Leroy McAuley. He was a member of Rourk Presbyterian Church where he had served as an Elder, a Deacon, Sunday School Supervisor, and was a member of the Millstone Men of the Church. He was a graduate of Ellerbe High School, Class of 1964 and of the horticulture department of NC State University. Alton was a charter member of the Price Richardson Hunt Club and a founding member and former president of Silver Spur Saddle Club. Alton was the owner of Double M Ranch and McAuley’s Plant Farm in Ellerbe. In addition to his father he was preceded in death by his brother Cecil McAuley. Surviving are his wife, Jackie Hester McAuley of the home; son Greg McAuley and wife Amy of Ellerbe; daughter, Dana McAuley Lindsey and husband Michael of Clinton; grandchildren, Brooke McKay, Daniel McKay, Katelyn O’Neal, Miranda McAuley and Cody Whittenburg; his mother Edith Shaw McAuley of Ellerbe; and sisters, Brenda Mitchell of Rockingham and Dell McAuley of Ellerbe. A service to celebrate Alton’s life will be held at 11:00 am Wednesday at Rourk Presbyterian Church with Rev. John Stone and Rev. Ladd Brearley officiating. Private interment will be held in the church cemetery. The family will see friends from 5:00 – 8:00 pm Tuesday at Carter Funeral Home in Ellerbe and at other times at the home on Haywood Parker Rd.
