Betty Lou Little Garris

Betty Lou Little Garris, 77, of Rockingham, passed away on Saturday, July 17, 2010 at Britthaven of Hamlet. Betty was born November 7, 1932 in Rockingham, a daughter of the late James Leak and Lula Garris Little. She was an active member of First Baptist Church of Rockingham, where she was the Preschool Sunday School Director for over 20 years. She retired from Liberty Life Insurance Company in Rockingham, after 25 years of dedicated service. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by an infant son, Steven, a sister, Sarah Everhart, and brothers, Woodrow and William Little. Surviving are her husband of 42 years, Jerry Reid Garris of the home; daughter, Debbie McIver and husband Steve of Hamlet; son, Edward Michael Brewer of Myrtle Beach; brother, George Little of Rockingham; sisters, Clara Whitehead of Cordova, TN, and Nancy Averitte of Hamlet. Also surviving are grandchildren, Reid McIver and wife Jennifer, Tracy McIver, all of Hamlet, Jay Brewer of Ohio; great grandchildren, Kainen and Wallace McIver and Tyler Brewer. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 pm Tuesday, July 20, 2010 at First Baptist Church of Rockingham with Rev. Dr. James Nelson officiating. Interment will follow in Eastside Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:00 – 8:00 pm Monday at Carter Funeral Home in Rockingham and at other times at the home.
