William Fletcher Covington, born July 28, 1934 in Ghio, N.C., went home to be with Jesus on August 4, 2010. William (Bill) served in the US Army in the Korean War and was part of The Frozen Chosen in 1953. He was proud to have served his country and received numerous medals of valor, including a Purple Heart. His life and character was one that made a lasting impression of integrity and always a good sense of humor. Bill is survived by his wife Evelyn (Greene) Covington; his son Steve F. Covington and wife Kay and Steve’s son Kevin; his daughter, Sheila (Covington) Harvin, her children and grandchildren, Jennifer Mueller and husband Anthony and great grandchild, Alexa; his grandson, Wesley Colgate, II of Myrtle Beach; sister-in-law, Vicki Covington of Litchfield; and many nieces and nephews; his siblings, Gladys Milliken of Hamlet, NC, Nat (Covington) Campbell and wife Ruth of Hamlet, NC, Ann (Covington) Palmer of Virginia Beach, Va, Betty Rash and husband Jack of Union, SC and numerous friends in the Myrtle Beach area that he cherished and through out his place of birth in Ghio, NC He will be greatly missed by everyone that had the pleasure of knowing him. He served his life mission with strength and pride. Job well done with the courage to do your very best, love God, love others and never quit. He is forever in our hearts. Graveside services will be held at 2:00 P.M. Saturday at Norman Cemetery in Norman, NC with full military honors and with the Rev. Michael Carpenter officiating.
