Carl Alton Hogan, 82, of 701 Walnut Lane, Rockingham, passed away Saturday, August 14, 2010 at FirstHealth Richmond Memorial Hospital in Rockingham. Mr. Hogan was born February 14, 1928 in Richmond County, a son of the late Sam and Rosa Hurley Hogan. He served his country in the US Navy during World War II,attended Maple Street Free Will Baptist Church and retired from Aleo Manufacturing Company. Carl visited meal sites in Richmond County, singing and ministering to everyone at the site. He had written several songs and a few poems. He was preceded in death by his wife, Cleo Annie Summerford Hogan, brothers and sisters, Sammy Hogan, Grace Beverly, Edna Pankey, Ruth Boren, Bertha Smith McInnis, Daniel Hogan and Elsie Hogan and a step-grandson, Trey Cumber. Surviving are his children, Robert Hogan and wife Vickie of Statesville, NC, Donnie Hogan and wife Tammie of Rockingham , Karen Benoist and husband Rick of Rockingham; grandchildren, Matt Hogan, Danny Hogan and wife Heather, Carrie Hogan, Michael Benoist and wife April, Michelle Graham and husband Rob; great grandchildren, Brandon Watford, Lukas and Allie Phillips; and special friend Coleman O’Neal. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM Tuesday at Glenwood United Methodist Church with Rev. Joel Perry and Rev. Dennis Smith officiating. Interment will follow in Richmond County Memorial Park. The family will see friends from 6:00-8:00 PM Monday at Carter Funeral Home in Rockingham and at other times at the home on Walnut Lane. The family requests memorials be made in Carl’s memory by donating to Gideon’s International for the purchase of Bibles.
